This is 9th in a series of posts sharing the photos my grandfather took in 1969 on a business trip to Moscow. For full context, read the start of part 1.
This post has scenes on the Moscow River.

– This is actually the Pertsov apartment building at Kursovoy pereulok 1 (Kursovoy Lane 1, at the corner of Prechistenka Embankment). The Barcelona art nouveau magazine Coup de Fouet gives a description in “A Stroll Through Moscow’s Style Moderne“: “The Pertsov apartment building (1906-1910), designed by S. V. Maliutin with the engineer N. K. Zhukov and built at 1 Kursovoy Lane, was considered a remarkable accomplishment. Cubist principles were applied to create architectonic forms that recall a small storybook town with numerous projections, balconies, niches, towers and a dizzying array of pitched roofs. P. N. Pertsov, a railroad magnate and renowned patron of Russian art, sponsored a competition for the design of a building that would express “the spirit and traditions of Moscow, while also responding to modern requirements”. The winner was Maliutin, who drew all the ornamental details on the outside and decorated the apartments in the Russian style. The fairy-tale atmosphere is also reflected in numerous majolica panels, executed at the Murava ceramics factory and depicting themes from Russian folklore. Dragons in relief and giant pineapples contribute to the effect.”

– Rostovskaya naberezhnaya. “House architects” got its name due to the fact that its residents were fairly well-known architects ( Vesnin brothers, M.Barkhin, Moisei Ginzburg, Kornfeld and others).
Buildings along the Moscow River with Moscow State University in the distance.
Moscow State University is visible behind the ship. Looks like hoists for cargo on top.
